Frequently Asked Questions
Here is a list of some frequently asked questions:
1. What is the difference between time, steps and distance in the Virtual Journey Notebook? If you choose "Walking" as an activity, you will notice that your activity can be entered in "steps, distance or time." This selection is extremely important! If you are using a pedometer, you'll likely want to choose "steps" and enter the total number of steps themselves. Or, maybe you walked 2 miles, so you'd choose "distance." Finally, maybe you walked for 30 minutes. In this case you'd choose time and enter "30." Whatever you choose, be careful that it's the correct choice!
2. What if I accidentally enter too many miles? We can reset your mileage for you if you enter too many miles in an entry. Email us with your username, email address and detailed description of the problem. We are currently working on a new feature that will allow you to reset your past 10 entries. Be careful when you enter your miles!
3. How exactly is my mileage calculated? Each activity you may enter in your Journal is converted into miles based on a wellness industry standard equation. The equation calculates your exercise based on the intensity level you enter and uses the equation to translate your exercise into mileage.
For any exercise where actual mileage can be tracked (running, walking, swimming, elliptical, biking, etc.) you are given the choice to enter your activity in either time or distance. For any activity that is not usually tracked in mileage (group exercise classes, court sports, golf, yoga, etc.) you may only enter your activity in time exercised. That time will then be translated into mileage based on the equation.
4. Why do only walking, running, swimming, cycling, and elliptical have the option of entering my activity in mileage units and every other activity is only in time units? Because these activities are commonly tracked in mileage. You may choose to enter these types of activities in either time or distance, but be aware that the mileage you get in your Journey may not be exactly the same in both cases. Since distance is actual and time translation is only a calculation, they may vary.
5. I can’t see my Journal. Where is it? Try looking at the toolbar at the bottom of your screen. If you have already clicked on 'Launch Journey' the Notebook may be open and minimized.
6. How can I edit my events or my goals? Enter the "Calendar" section of your notebook and select the type of entry you would like to edit (goal, event, etc.), then select the date range you can find that entry in. Click on the entry itself on the upper right side of the notebook. That entry will appear in the text screen below. Edit the selection there.
7. How are my calories calculated? Your calories are calculated based on an equation that uses the time or distance of the activity, the intensity of the activity and the weight in pounds that you entered in your personal profile. If you need to add your weight or change it, use the "My Account" link at the top of the Amerathon Club homepage.
8. I don’t see any calories burned. Why not? Did you enter your weight in the profile page when you first became a member? If you didn't, your calories burned will not appear. If you'd like to enter your weight now or change your weight at any time, see the "My Account" link at the top of your screen.
9. Why does my "Miles Today" say zero (0)? If you've entered your activity for a date other than today, your Mileage today will read zero. This is because you have not recorded any miles for today!
10. Can I enter an activity or exercise from a previous date? Good news! Now you can! On the Journal Page of your notebook you will notice an activity entry date. The default date will be set to the current day. If you'd like to choose a date in the past, simply click on the small calendar feature and choose your date. Can you go ahead in the calendar? Not unless you found the magic answer for exercising for tomorrow, today! :)
11. Can I join a Team? Currently this feature is open to groups of people who join the Amerathon Club under a school or corporation. If you are a member through a company or a group, visit the Forum to form a team with other group members and contact your group administrator.
Be on the lookout for the ability to use the Teams feature with your friends and families!
12. What if I do an activity or exercise not on the Journal list? First, please contact us to let us know what it is so we can make it a part of our offering. Until we are able to do that, try comparing your activity (in terms of exertion level) to walking or running, then use one of those two activities to replace the one you can't find on the list.
For example: I felt like that 30 minute workout was equivalent to 30 minutes of moderate jogging.
13. I see a small number on the upper left corner of my Virtual Journey Notebook. What is that? That number represents your membership I.D and is used to help us track your Journey. In the event that you would run into a need for assistance, we would use this number to help us identify your account.
14. Why can't I see the pop-up from my membership email or my Virtual Journey Notebook Pop-Up? You may have a pop-up blocker turned on that you don't know about. Try opening one of our pop-ups and look for a yellow bar that says "pop-up blocked" or something similar. Click on that yellow bar and choose "allow all pop-ups from this site." Contact us if you are still having trouble.
15. What happens when I get to the end of the Journey? It's a surprise!
16. Is there a different route I can take on my Journey? Before too long there will be. We're constructing them soon!
